Here we go again. The UN claims it’s “scaling up” its response to the twin earthquakes that hit Venezuela like a wrecking ball. But hold your applause—why should we trust the UN when they’ve been peddling propaganda and virtue signaling for years? The mainstream media, particularly outlets like CNN and NBC, will spin this as a selfless act of humanitarianism. Meanwhile, the Venezuelan government has long been a favorite punching bag for liberal outlets that have any excuse to vilify it.
What’s frankly astonishing is that these earthquakes didn’t fit the narrative the media outlets have been pushing for so long. It’s easier to report on dictatorship and economic collapse than to admit when a natural disaster occurs, right? So let’s not kid ourselves. The moment the dust settles, the initial sympathy will morph into another round of editorials about how Venezuela “needs a change,” conveniently ignoring the external factors contributing to its struggles.
And let’s not forget networks like Fox News, which will probably use this opportunity to wave the flag of capitalism. They’d love nothing more than to exploit this disaster to argue that a free market would have saved lives. As if economic policies could stop earthquakes! The hypocrisy is staggering.
In a twisted way, these tragedies serve the agenda of both sides—pawns in their relentless game of political chess. Real people are suffering, but the media moguls will spin the narrative in whatever way sells more ad space. We can only hope this disaster doesn’t get overshadowed by the next manufactured scandal.
