Let’s be honest: corporate media, including CNN and MSNBC, is making a circus out of the tragic events leading to the rescue of a 60-year-old woman after 86 hours trapped. Sure, it’s a heartwarming story, but these outlets are leveraging it to shove their narrative of doom and gloom down our throats. While they focus on this one individual, tens of thousands are still reported missing, and yet the mainstream media would rather spotlight a single feel-good headline than tackle the larger, grim reality.
What does this say about their motivations? It’s simple: manipulate emotions to keep eyes glued to the screen while avoiding meaningful examination of why so many are unaccounted for. CNN loves the sensational; it feeds their ratings. Meanwhile, Fox News? Don’t think they’re off the hook. Their coverage leans into the fear-mongering—look at the disaster, they say, but what solutions are they proposing? None. Just a cycle of blame and despair.
Still, we must also ask the key question: where’s the accountability? Until the press holds those in charge responsible for the aftermath of these disasters, we’re left with nothing more than a team of woefully misguided storytellers obsessing over single narratives. The reality is harsh, and the media’s fluffy reporting distorts it into a palatable form for their audience. In a time of crisis, we need candor, not pandering.
