As we sift through the chaos surrounding the deportees from the U.S. now scavenging in the rubble of a hotel in Venezuela’s La Guaira city, one question rises above the rest: where’s the outrage from our so-called “news” networks? The likes of CNN and MSNBC are busy fluffing their narratives about how the U.S. is a “safe haven,” while Tim Pool and Fox News scratch at the surface of deeper injustices plaguing those who dared to return only to be met with abject disaster.
Corporate media loves to parade a sanitized version of reality: the story they spin is about migrants making a “choice” — as if that choice wasn’t engineered by desperation and the very policies they defend. They ignore the systemic failures that led these individuals to seek refuge elsewhere, only to find themselves abandoned in a broken infrastructure. Meanwhile, outlets like Fox claim to champion the plight of the average American, yet don’t bat an eye at the plight of deported individuals finding themselves effectively homeless after being yanked from a so-called ‘land of opportunity.’
It’s a disgusting display of “reporting” where charisma and half-truths take precedence over honest journalism. Instead of diving into the underlying issues of immigration reform and the political games at play, they bury their heads in the sand, letting their viewers think everything is just fine while lives are shattered in front of them. This isn’t just about reporting; it’s about accountability, and it’s something these outlets are wholly failing to provide.
