‘They took our toilet’: How a settlement has squeezed a Palestinian village

Here we go again: an illegal Israeli outpost is popping up right next to Umm al-Khair in the West Bank, effectively severing the locals from their land. This isn’t just a real estate issue; it’s a blatant act of aggression that corporate media refuses to cover with honesty. Instead of rightly framing this as a violation of human rights, outlets like CNN and The New York Times turn a blind eye or, worse, dilute the story to “both sides” nonsense. Seriously, how about we stop pretending that there are two sides when one side is illegally occupying and expanding at the expense of vulnerable communities?

Fox News? Don’t even get me started. They love a villain when it’s Israel’s foes, but when it comes to critiquing Israeli expansionism, they fall silent. You’d think a network that claims to stand for freedom and democracy would have a crystal-clear stance against illegal land grabs. But no, they cherry-pick narratives to fit their agenda, ensuring that the plight of villagers is drowned out by self-serving geopolitics.

The double standard is staggering. What would happen if Palestinians set up illegal outposts in Tel Aviv? You can bet the headlines would be callous and incendiary. But here, amidst the continual erosion of Palestinian land rights, the mainstream media washes its hands and keeps pushing the establishment narrative. Until we demand more from our media, this tragic reality will continue to unfold in silence.
