The news about Interscope Records continuing to support D4vd, even after he allegedly took the life of Celeste Rivas, is downright shocking, but what’s really shocking is how corporate media is framing this narrative. TMZ is at least bringing the story into the light, but their take doesn’t go nearly far enough. They mention “nuance and clarity” like that’s going to soften the blow of a record label propping up an alleged murderer. Why should corporations be allowed to act like morality is a fashion statement that’s subject to trends or public opinion?
Meanwhile, the likes of CNN and even Fox News tiptoe around the core issue: the problematic marriage between fame, money, and accountability. They love to demonize individuals who mess up but somehow give a pass to corporations that put profit above all else. Where’s the accountability for Interscope? You think they’d still support D4vd if he was just another kid with a tragic background instead of a rising star? This is hypocrisy incarnate, and the media is just playing along.
Don’t be fooled by the veneer of sympathy or understanding. The narratives being spun here are designed to protect corporate interests rather than seek justice or integrity. Public outcry should not only be aimed at the individual alleged to have committed a crime but also at the institutions that enable such behavior through monetary support.
