More than 260 people are dead in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and where’s the wall-to-wall coverage from CNN or MSNBC? Instead, they’re busy selling their latest narratives about climate change and political drama, as if the ongoing public health crisis isn’t tearing through a vulnerable population. The corporate media doesn’t care—unless they can spin the story in their favor.

It’s nothing short of appalling that the seriousness of a health outbreak doesn’t hold more weight in their otherwise sensationalized agendas. Oh, sure, when it’s something that fits their desired narrative—get out the cameras and bring on the talking heads. But when it’s life and death, especially for less “newsworthy” parts of the world, they shrug and turn the channel to the latest celebrity scandal. This is where real journalism dies—a visible neglect of duty for a true global crisis while they feed us infotainment drivel.

Let’s not pretend that the lives of these people are secondary. The Democratic Republic of Congo deserves the same attention as any crisis in Europe or America. It’s a blatant disregard slapped right in the face of compassion, couched behind ratings and ad revenues. If major news outlets won’t amplify the story, we should question their credibility and biases. The absence of urgency reveals not just indifference but a hideous flaw in how mainstream media curates reality.
