Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo’s recent traffic stop was a classic example of the unlevel playing field we see in America today. He flashed his status, got let off with just a warning, and the whole thing was conveniently caught on camera. But don’t hold your breath for CNN or MSNBC to dig into the implications of this selective treatment. Instead of addressing the alarming privilege that comes with a title, they’d rather serve up the footage as a harmless anecdote.
Meanwhile, Fox News might handle it with an angle that’s just as disingenuous, presenting Gov. Lombardo as a relatable figure while glossing over the blatant disparity in treatment. The media’s obsession with a narrative that supports the establishment is exhausting. Why not ask the tough questions? Why isn’t every taxpayer’s experience on the road viewed with the same scrutiny? Where’s the accountability when our leaders flaunt their authority?
It’s ironic. A traffic stop that should illuminate issues of bias becomes a publicity moment instead. Those of us critical of government know the real story is transparency and equal treatment under the law. Governor Lombardo’s escape from repercussions is just one more reminder of how the elite operate: free to break rules, while the average citizen bears the burden of the law. Don’t let the media’s gloss over this hypocrisy fool you—this is a clear case of privilege that they’d love you to overlook.
