This week, China and North Korea are patting each other on the back as they celebrate the 65th anniversary of their friendship treaty. Of course, you won’t hear much about this alliance in the mainstream media unless it’s to paint it as another crisis or a potential nuclear threat. Let’s call out the elephant in the room—CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News love sensationalism, and this partnership doesn’t fit their usual narratives of Western superiority or impending doom.
Take CNN, for example. They thrive on fear-mongering. You can bet they’ll frame this anniversary as a sign of growing threats to global stability, twisting it to fit their “Russia, China, and North Korea vs. the World” narrative. Why? Because fear sells clicks and keeps the war machine well-oiled. Meanwhile, Fox News will likely use this to bolster their “tough on Communism” agenda, rallying their base with oversimplified tropes and outdated Cold War rhetoric.
Rather than providing a nuanced analysis of the geopolitical implications, these outlets are more focused on how they can whip up outrage and distract you from real issues at home, like the deteriorating state of our own democracy. They’re not presenting facts; they’re pushing their narratives like a dog with a bone. So while China and North Korea celebrate, our media is too busy playing tug-of-war—tossing critical thinking right out the window.
